In the night,
Acorns tap-dance on the roof
To a windy melody.
Against the window,
The branches, like magicked drumsticks,
Strike a lively rhythm on glass, brick, and wood.
The melodic twirling of the leaves
Welcomes Shu, the god of air.
Across the yard, they spin around,
They leap the fence like acrobats,
Never to return.
Summer took so long to say goodbye,
I thought she'd never leave.
But now she's gone, to the other side of Earth,
To keep us waiting for longer days.
Goodnight, sweet melody.
Goodnight, windy world.
